Spring SaladSpring Salad<div class="ExternalClassDCEDACF0BB284A84BBB22009944EDCAD"><p>This food garden design is a good choice for a location that gets sun for more than half the day. It doesn't need shelter from the wind.​</p>​​<br></div>https://growgreenguide.ca/designs/PlansPic/_w/SpringSaladThumb_jpg.jpg, https://growgreenguide.ca/plans/PlansPic/_w/SpringSaladThumb_jpg.jpg35<div class="ExternalClass3F638C1C2CB44793B205DC041B4DD814"><p>To properly maintain your garden, and for best results: </p><ul><li>When selecting food plants pick things that will thrive in the conditions you can provide. </li><li>Consider using raised garden beds, which help with drainage and have warmer soil earlier in the year, to help new plants grow more quickly. </li><li>Prepare the garden bed with good quality soil. </li><li>Apply 5 cm of well-rotted compost or manure annually in the spring (try not to pile it up around woody stems).</li><li>Growing from seed? Follow instructions on seed package for depth, spacing and thinning. </li><li>Using transplants? Follow instructions on plant ID tag. Dig a hole the depth of the plug (roots + soil) and gently remove plug from the container and place in hole. </li><li>Water only as needed. Ensure that the soil is moist but not saturated. Every few days, check the top inch of soil with your finger. If it feels dry, it is time to water. </li><li>Weeds will compete with your food plants. Remove small weeds and discard in the compost. </li><li>Each food plant has its own growing period and harvest time.
